PUBLIC DEMAND SHAPES THE LAW
On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day on December 10, a meeting with the advisor of the RA Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) Sergey Ghazinyan was held at Northern University. The meeting was attended by students of different faculties, as well as the teaching and administrative staff. Expressing his gratitude to Mr. Ghazinyan for accepting the invitation, rector M. Makichyan considered it especially important to increase the level of legal literacy of every citizen today, expressing hope that the meeting would contribute to this.
The organiser of the event, head of the Chair of Law, Associate Professor A. Harutyunyan considered it extremely important to start cooperation between the university and the Office of the Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Armenia, noting that from now on such meetings will be held frequently.
- Ghazinyan presented the functions of the Office of the Human Rights Defender and the mechanisms for selecting the Ombudsman, emphasizing the role and significance of this institution in society. The participants asked Mr Ghazinyan a number of topical questions about the Armenian captives in Azerbaijan, as well as about the processes of demarcation and delimitation.
To sum up the meeting, Sergey Ghazinyan, advisor to the RA Human Rights Defender, said that ‘Law is formed by public demand’, urging the participants to be demanding in the protection of their own rights.
